Disneyland Decked Out for Halloween

We made our monthly trip to Disneyland in October to find Disney decorated for Halloween -- and Christmas, sort of. Disney always does the "Nightmare Before Christmas" so Halloween and Christmas decorations can kind of flow together. I was disappointed to find the Christmas lights were not up on "Small World" so we didn't get the cool Christmas light show there, but it was still a fun day and it's nice to see the different decorations for the harvest season. The huge Disney Character heads made out of (fake) pumpkins was especially cool and above you can see we're posing in front of a rather large Mickey o' Lantern. We had a "professional" photo taken earlier, but they had a system crash and lost all the morning's photos. This shot was taken with my camera by the camera dudes who messed up in the first place.

Miramar Air Show

'Tis time again for my photo club's monthly outing, and this time we went to the Miramar Air Show. No group photos please -- we went on different days at different times. While this may not be as much fun as going all together, it did give us the opportunity to get a bigger variety of photos of the event.

Typically, very crowded and this was no exception. I managed to get close to the front to get some shots off, but often there was something or someone in the way. The static displays as well as the kenetic ones were great though -- if you're into planes and tanks and whatnot.

I had to park a zillion miles away. Fortunately there was a shuttle that took me right to the gate. Unfortunately I stayed until after the Blue Angels flew -- which is pretty much when everyone else decided to leave as well. The shuttles going back to the various parking lots were crammed and the lines long. I figured I'd just walk back. I didn't remember it being that far and I thought I knew where I'd parked my bike. I was wrong on both counts, more or less. I ended up going to the right place, so maybe point two was correct -- I remember where I left it, but point one was off a bit. I had to walk about 3 miles to get to my bike.

Even after the long walk and gear up, traffic was not moving. Well, that's precisely WHY I rode my bike to the base. I was able to split lanes and get off the base in 10 minutes. I imagine those in cars back where I started were still sitting there going nowhere 1 or two hours later. Did I mention I was glad I rode my bike? If I ever venture to the airshow again, you can bet I'll be on my bike.

Padres Post Season

I was fortunate enough to have tickets to the first game of the post season -- well, to be honest, I had tickets for games all the way through the world series. Too bad I didn't get to use them since the Pads lost in the first round of the play-offs. Still, it was fun to go to the game and be part of the "post season" experience. I'm not sure when the Pads will make the post season again, but I'm already looking forward to next season.
